Kids with big dreams deserve every opportunity to make those dreams a reality. After abuse or other harm, big dreams give way to big questions.
That’s why Susie’s Place has expanded our on-site medical suite in Bloomington
New Suite contains response tools and staff not found anywhere around Monroe County
Susie’s Place has recently completed work on a new 4,700-square-foot, $135,000 expansion for its medical suite for kids. The expanded space has all the tools necessary to help kids and teens heal and recover comfortably after abuse or other harm.
- Staffed by world-class medical physicians and SANE-certified nurses from IU Health – Riley Physicians
- ADA-accessible spaces, including private restrooms
- NCA-accredited staff and spaces
Kids have a lot of questions when they come for a visit
The new Medical Suite has been designed from the ground up to help kids and families understand everything that might have occurred during traumatic events. All at no cost to kids and their families who need it.
Is my body okay? Am I okay?
Will I have any pain?
What comes next?
What if I need more help?
Does this mean I’m different?
How will I react?
Will others find out?
What if we don’t have insurance?
Expanded space helps kids on their journey after severe trauma from abuse or crimes
“We owe a lot to Dr. Richard Malone, Danielle Benedek, and Olivia Sarchet, our medical case manager,” says Emily Perry, Executive Director of Susie’s Place. “This has taken about four years to complete, including time for the medical staff to receive more training. But we’re now doing even better on-site exams after confirmed reports of child abuse, sexual assault, and other harms against kids.”
Every case that flows into the Medical Suite benefits from NCA-accredited staff, trauma-informed practices, and a truly private space, from entrance to exit.
Your support keeps this suite running
Each child who visits the Medical Suite and needs a medical exam gets on at no cost. IU Health covers the costs of their practitioner’s time. Susie’s Place, through donations from the public, covers lease, utility, equipment, and other supply costs.
Donations support big dreams and healthy childhoods across all our Centers.
