This is why

This is Why

I know that there are many incredible organizations in our community that are doing amazing work.  BUT, Susie’s Place could not serve children in need without YOU.

When I sat down to write you this letter, I was considering ALL the ways Susie’s Place could show you the good work that is happening here.

Here are just a few reasons that immediately came to mind:

  1. Over 1,500 reported child victims, this year alone, that will find a safe place to talk about what happened…
  2. Our three Child & Family Advocates who offer support and resources to more than 1,000 families
  3. 28,000 K-12th grade students that will receive Child Abuse Prevention Programming this school year…

After thinking more about the message that I wanted YOU to read, I realized that none of those examples demonstrate the true reason why Susie’s Place is so important.  All the statistics and program updates are wonderful at conveying what we do…but, the message that I truly want you to understand is WHY we do what we do.

Susie’s Place has served or will serve someone that you care about.  A child from your family, neighborhood, church or school will walk through our doors in the midst of a crisis.  They will be scared, unsure, and will be met with a staff of people whose entire focus is to make them feel safe and allow them to be heard.

I WANT THAT CHILD TO BE YOUR NUMBER ONE PRIORITY BECAUSE THAT CHILD IS OUR NUMBER ONE PRIORITY.

I have seen the change in reported child victims from when they inch through our doors to when they stand up tall and walk out.  I have seen the fear turn to bravery and the bravery turn to happiness. My staff and I have introduced ourselves to faces full of tears and have warmly said goodbye to smiles.  I know that when a child comes to Susie’s Place, it can be the end of the bad and the beginning of the good for the children we serve, and that is why I do what I do.

Now that you know why I do what I do, I want to ask you, what will you do?

With gratitude for your support,

Emily E. Perry
