Shortly after opening Susie’s Place in Bloomington, a child victim of abuse walked into the waiting area uncomfortable and afraid. She was unsure of what was going to happen and the idea of telling the experience of what brought her to Susie’s Place to a stranger was embarrassing and difficult. Fast forward to the end of the interview and the girl’s departure. As she walked toward the door, she took a piece of chalk and stood in front of the chalkboard that said “Welcome to Susie’s Place” and added “You’re going to love it here.” It is that comfort and level of service that we are proud to expand into our newest location.
Susie’s Place is proud to announce that our third center has opened! The Terre Haute location conducted their first forensic interview on May 10th. This center has been years in the making, but has finally come to fruition thanks to the hard work of the Susie’s Place Board of Directors, staff and the community. While we owe thanks to so many, there are a few that deserve recognition for being instrumental in the opening of this new center. Special thanks goes to John Moats of the Vigo County Sheriff Department, Tony Guinn with the Indiana State Police, and Steve Herron from Thompson Thrift for their support in making this opportunity possible.
Susie’s Place is located in downtown Terre Haute, but will focus on serving Vigo, Vermillion, Parke, Clay and Sullivan counties. In 2016 and years past, we served those counties in our Avon center, requiring teams and families to drive over an hour to and from their offices and homes. Locating in Terre Haute will allow us to better serve those areas. We expect this center to have the highest case volume of the three locations.
We will be hosting an Open House for the community to see the new center and meet the staff on August 3rd. Please save the date and come see us!
