Susie’s Place has interviewed 325 alleged child victims of crime this year to date. 168 interviews took place in our Avon center. 157 took place in the Bloomington center. This time last year, the number was 319. Sadly, our numbers show no sign of slowing.
April is Child Abuse Awareness Month. Susie’s Place is facilitating two separate Stewards of Children, Child Sexual Abuse Prevention programs to help you learn how to prevent and react to allegations of child abuse.
Law Enforcement, the Department of Child Services, advocates and many others fight for the well-being of these children. “If I’m not successful, if my officers are not successful then that child may be put back in that environment or maybe continue to be abused,” said Sgt. Jeff Hearon with Indiana State Police.
Susie’s Place Child Advocacy Center has done a lot for families throughout the state since opening in 2009, but there is no sign of the organization slowing down anytime soon. “We have grown so much,” she said. “Our very first year in 2009 when we opened, we worked 192 cases and last year we worked 847 — the growth has been substantial and unexpected.”
